FIRST AID TRAINING
Learning Outcomes
On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:
• Understand the importance of preventing cross-infection
• Understand the need for recording incidents and actions
• Understand se of available equipment
• Assessment of the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
• Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
• Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
• Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries
• Administer first aid to a casualty with injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries
• Administer first aid to a casualty with chest injuries
• Administer first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds
• Administer first aid to a casualty with eye injuries
• Administer first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning
• Administer first aid to a casualty with anaphylactic shock
Assessment
Continuous written and practical assessment carried out by the trainer.
Certification
Successful candidates will receive an Ofqual regulated FAW certificate valid for
3 years
First Aid at Work (3 Days)
The three day First Aid at Work (FAW) course provides the practical skills required by a First Aider in the modern workplace, together with the confidence and knowledge necessary to deal with First Aid emergencies. The course is suitable for businesses and individuals whose processes hold a higher risk potential following risk assessment. www.hse.gov.uk/firstaid/assessmenttool.htm
If the Risk Assessment has indicated that a Higher level of first aid provision is needed the FAW course will be required.
